What is the Difference between UK, Britain, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland
This world is divided into many countries. If we look at the map of world, we can see a large portion is covered by water. Land is divided into many small and large countries. Some islands can also be seen. Every country has a particular official name. Some Countries are called with more than one name. People often get confused when they talk about UK, Britain, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Here we are describing difference between them.
UK
UK stands for United Kingdom and the full name of country is United Kingdom of Great Britain and North Ireland. It is a Sovereign State and is further divided into four countries, i.e. England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Three crown dependencies are also associated with UK, but they are not part of it, constitutionally. UK is permanent member of many international institutions, including NATO, United Nations Security Council, G8, G7 and World trade Organization.
Britain
Kingdom of Great Britain or Britain was the state in Europe, which was established in 1707 and dissolved in 1801. In 1707 Kingdom of Scotland and kingdom of England, politically united to make Britain. A single parliament and government was use to control the whole country, having its center at Westminster. On 1st January, 1801, Kingdome of Great Britain and Kingdom of Ireland united to Form, UK or United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Republic of Ireland
Ireland is also a sovereign state, which consist of a large part of island of Ireland in Europe. The capital of country is Dublin. The population of Ireland is nearly 4 and half million. The country’s official name was Ireland till 1948; however, it was given the name republic of Ireland in Act 1948. Ireland is a developed country and is known for economic freedom and democratic independence.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is part of United Kingdom and shares a border with Republic of island. It singed Good Friday agreement in1998 after that it got the status of self governing state. Northern Island cooperates with rest of Ireland.
UK vs Britain vs Republic of Ireland vs Northern Ireland
UK is a sovereign state and consists of four countries, including Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. On the other hand Britain was the sovereign state in the past and it existed till 1801, after that become the part of UK. Republic of Ireland is another independent state in Europe and is a neighbor of UK. Northern Ireland is part of UK since 1801. So, Republic of Ireland is an independent country, member of NATO and many other international organizations, while Northern Ireland is part of UK along with three other small countries. Britain is also fused into UK and become a part of it, long ago.
