What is the Difference between Upc, Rfid, Barcode and Qr Code
In the field of electronics, innovations are carried out at very wide level. A very intelligent innovation is code systems. Now a day, we find some black lines on different product’s wrapper. These lines are the codes like barcode, upc code, qr code etc. These codes depict the price or any other value of that product, which is assigned to that code. Let’s have a brief look on theses codes.
Barcode
It is an optical machine readable representation of data. It shows the data which is attached to that object. There are different types of barcode representation. Earlier it represented data with the help of spacing between lines or width variation. It called 1D. Now a Day 2D barcodes are used, which shows data with different geometric patterns.
QR code
It is abbreviated as quick response code. It is a two dimensional code, which was designed for automotive industry. It is now very popular in out of industry also due to its large storage capacity. In qr code, code consist of black square modules on a white background.
UPC
It is a special type of barcode used for tracking the trade items in stores. It is widely used in north America, Australia. Uk and New Zealand. It consists of 12 numerical digits which are assigned to a trade item. It is only barcode used for trade item scanning.
RFID
It is denoted as, radio frequency identification. It is a technology used for transfer data from a tag called electronic tag. It uses radio frequency for transferring of data. The data is transferred to a reader which identifies the object on which tag is attached.
Barcode vs QR Code vs UPC vs RFID
The difference between barcode and UPC code is, barcode is a general code used to represent data attach with an object. It shows data by spacing between lines or other geometric patterns, while upc is a special type of barcode which is typically used for tracking trade items in stores. The difference between qr code and rfid is, qr is a quick response two dimensional code which was specially designed for automotive industry. it consist of black square modules which is a main difference of qr code to all other codes. Rfid is a technology not a code. It uses radio frequency to transfer data from an electronic tag to a reader.
