What is the Difference between Jailbreak and Unlock
Jailbreak and Unlock are the terms known to almost every iPhone user, when they get into some trouble while using their device. But what these terms actually are is never explained or the users themselves don’t show any interest in knowing them. These are valuable to be known. But they should not be confused as many people think that they are same and used to get rid for same type of problems.
Jailbreak
In iPhone “jail” is the standard restriction put on the system files by Apple, which limits the user to read or write the system files, or access the full system data. This limitation stops user to install any third party software like for reading or writing off data from iPhone, or video recorder and more that otherwise cannot be installed other then app. Store. To handle this limitation, “jail” is broken and user can now access the complete system files.
Unlock
To unlock means to make the iPhone compatible for all GSM carriers around the globe. Usually in US and Britain and some other countries iPhones are locked for particular GSM networks, for example, in US iPhones can be used only for AT&T, from Britain for O2 etc. therefore, to make it useful for any network iPhone is unlocked. Once unlocked, user can use it anywhere around the globe without paying and huge roaming fee.
Jailbreak vs Unlock
Apparently both the terms look so similar in meaning that anyone can confuse them. But their meanings are different. To unlock iPhone, means to unlock it for all GSM carriers while jail breaking means to break the restricted file system of the phone. In jail breaking, one can install new software and can change his phone by installing much compatible software but unlocking will not do any such well. With unlocking, iPhone becomes globally useful and jail breaking is only for the up gradation of the phone.
