What is the Difference between GSM and CDMA
GSM and CDMA technologies are nothing but radio signals for mobile phones. Actually, mobile phones, being an antenna, use these radio technologies for communication through calls as well as text messages. No doubt, both terminologies used in mobile phones for providing radio signals, but there is a vast difference between these two technologies. Here is all about the differences between GSM and CDMA.
GSM
GSM or “Global System for Mobile Communication” is such type of radio signals, in which access mechanism is TDMA and FDMA techniques. In this technology, we divide bandwidth for its better exploitation. Today, GSM connections have covered a wide area and widely using in all over the world. To access coverage through GSM connection, a SIM card is mandatory.
CDMA
CDMA is the abbreviation of “Code Division Multiple Access”. In this type of radio technology, the access mechanism comprises of CDMA own technique. The specialty of this technique is that, a unique code as well as bandwidth is assigned to every user separately. Still, CDMA technology has a limited area of coverage rather than internationally.
GSM vs CDMA
There are many key differences between these two radio signal technologies. The major difference between them is their individual frequency range and modulation scheme as well. Moreover, being having different frequency range, both mobile technologies use different types of SIM cards. However, in case of CDMA, SIM card is not as mandatory as for using GSM. Similarly, people use GSM technology in all over the world rather than CDMA, which is using in few countries. CDMA connections have tendency of holding many calls for one channel. On the contrary, GSM connections cannot do this because of call dropping complaints. CDMA technology provides better data transfer speed as compared to GSM connections and can run the latest function in modern mobile phones, very efficiently.
