What is the Difference between aac, wav, wma, ipod, mp3 and mp4
We use different musical devices and audio file formats to enjoy our favorite music. With the advancement of technology, verity is increasing and this makes choice difficult. Here we are discussing different file formats which are used for storage of audio files.
Aac
AAC stands for Advanced Audio Coding; this is basically an encoding scheme for digital audio. It offers better sound quality if we compare it with MP3, at similar bit rate. AAC is a standard audio format for many devices, like iPod, iPad, iPhone, Play station 3 and many others.
Wav
WAV stands for waveform Audio file Format. This is a file extension, which is commonly used to store audio in computers. This format is used on Windows systems for raw audio files, or in other words to save uncompressed audio data.
Wma
Window Media Audio or WMA is the audio data compression technology. This was developed by Microsoft and forms part of the windows media framework. It consists of four different codecs.
iPode
iPode is the series of media players, which are manufactured by Apple and launched in 2001. These portable products have now been introduced in many different types as iPod classic, iPad Touch, and iPad Nano. iPod also serves as storage device. The storage capacity varies with the model.
Mp3
Mp3 is the patented digital audio encoding format. This is the most commonly used audio format. This is used for the playback music on digital audio players.
Mp4
MP4 is the multimedia container format, which is commonly used to store digital audio and video data. We can also save still images in this format.
AAC vs WAV vs WMA vs iPode vs Mp3 vs Mp4
All these are different types of file format, which are used to store digital audio data. However, different formats are used indifferent situations. For instance, Mp3 and Mp4 are commonly used by Mp3 can store only audio data but we can also store video data in Mp4. Similarly, Wav is used for data storage in computers, while Wma is also used in window systems as a part of audio format. On the other hand, iPode is portable music playing device. AAC file format is used where better sound quality is required.
