What is the Difference between Billiards, Snooker and Pool
There are different kinds of sports played in the world. A category of sports is called cue sports. These are actually games of skill and played with a cue stick. Billiards, snooker and pool are different types of cue games. A common man cannot differentiate between them and consider them the same. In reality, all these games are similar but they are different from each other. Here we are trying to mention brief difference between them, which will make things easier for you to understand.
Billiards
Billiards is an umbrella term and all other cue sports are considered as the branches of billiards. Carom billiards, pool and snooker are major subdivisions of this game. Billiards has different meanings in different dialect and context. In British and Australian English it refers to the actual game of billiards while in other languages, it refers to the group of games.
Snooker
Snooker is also a cue sport, which is played on s table which is usually covered with green cloth. The table has pockets on each corner and in the middle too. The cloth on snooker table has specific direction, running from the balk end to the black ball spot end. This direct of the cloth affects the movement of ball. Snooker is played with 22 snooker balls, which are hit with a cue. These balls are of different colors and every color has different points. If a player wins more points than his opponent, he wins the frame. After winning a certain number of frames, he wins the match.
Pool
Pool is a form of billiards and is also called as pocket billiards or pool billiards. It is played on pool table, which has six pockets along the rails. Walls are deposited in these pockets, which is the main aim of every player. It is played with eight balls, but sometimes nine ball version is also played. In the past pool was called as six pocket, but it is obsolete now.
Billiards vs Snooker vs Pool
All these are different types of cue games but billiards is considered as the mother game and pool and snooker are the branches. However, snooker is more popular as compared to billiards and pool. All these games are played with cue which is a stick like item, but rules are regulation varies. These games are played with different balls on a table, which are hit by the cue. The number of balls and dimensions of table are different for pool and snooker. In pool the aim of player is to get more and more points. IN snooker player fight for points but balls of different colors carry different points.
