What is the Difference between Radioactivity Convection Radiation Chemotherapy
Radiations are very important for the existence of life on planet earth. Our planet receive different types of radiations, some are absorbed by the earth surface, while others are reflected back, in the atmosphere. Some terms are closely associated with radiations, like radioactivity, convection, radiation and chemotherapy. Let’s try to know the difference between them.
Radioactivity
Radioactivity or radioactive decay is the process by which an atomic nucleus of an unstable atom emits ionizing radiation, hence lose energy. As a result of losing electrons a new product is formed, which is called as daughter nuclide. Usually, alpha, beta and gamma rays are emitted; however, it depends on the main radioactive nucleus. Radioactivity can cause damage to life and its effects are long lasting.
Convection
Convection is the collective movement of molecules within fluids. Generally, the term convection is used in terms of transference of heat by convection. Usually free heat convection comes under the umbrella of this term. In mechanics, it has more strict meanings and used for fluids only.
Radiation
When particles of energy or waves travel through some medium, it is called as radiation. Ionizing radiation and non ionizing radiations are two types of radiations. Radio waves, heat and visible light are some examples of radiations. Radiations are also used as a method of treatment in some cases, like cancer and skim problems.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is the method used for the treatment of cancer. In this method of treatment, specific drugs are used, which focus on the rapidly growing cells and inhibit their growth. Besides cancer, this method is also used for the treatment of arthritis, hepatitis and sclerosis. Chemotherapy is an expansive way of treatment.
Radioactivity vs Convection vs Radiation vs Chemotherapy
Radioactivity is the emission of rays from unstable atoms, while convection is simply transference of heat. Radioactivity can cause harm to the any kind of life, like animals, plants and human, while radiations are used for many useful purposes like communication. Radiations are used as a method of treatment in disease like cancers and skin problems. On the other hand, chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer by using drugs. Radioactivity can cause long term damage to human generations, while radiations are not destructive. Convection is important for controlling the temperature of planet earth. Radioactivity is a natural activity, but the process can be initiated in radioactive plants as well. Convection is simply the transference of heat, while radiations and chemotherapy have wide range of applications.
