What is the Difference between Polyacrylic Polyethylene Polyurethane Urethane
Since the evolution of science, manufacturing of chemical compounds has become a routine matter all over the world. There are many types of chemical compounds that people use either for positive purpose or even for negative purpose. Polyacrylic, Polyethylene, Polyurethane and Urethane are the names of some compounds that are useful for human beings in various ways. Here is the difference between Polyacrylic, Polyethylene, Polyurethane and Urethane.
Polyacrylic
Polyacrylic is a term that is used extensively for Polyacrylic acid. The basic unit of Polyacrylic is acrylic acid and polymerization is the process that is used for linking up monomers of acrylic acid to form polyacrylic acid. Polyacrylic is a white thermoplastic resin and available in both solid and liquid form. Being a thickening and absorbing agent, it is used in diapers and antiseptic agents.
Polyethylene
Polyethylene is a thermoplastic chemical compound that is made up by polymerization of hydrocarbon compounds. The chemical formula for polyethylene is (C2H2)nH2. The most common use of polyethylene is making plastic bags for packing purpose. Moreover, the polyethylene pipes are also widely used in industries due to its inert nature.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane is a polymer that is made up by polymerization of urethane compounds. It is hard and stiff material and widely used in manufacturing of shoes and foams.
Urethane
Urethane is an ester compound of carbonic acid with chemical formula C3H7NO2. It is flexible material and can be easily molded in different shapes. Urethane is used to make a certain type of plastic material as well as its use can be seen in making of medicines both for human beings and animals.
Polyacrylic vs Polyethylene vs Polyurethane vs Urethane
The first common thing about these entire four chemical compounds i.e. Polyacrylic, Polyethylene, Polyurethane and Urethane is that, all they are thermoplastic materials. However, all these thermoplastic compounds are different in terms of raw materials, chemical formula and end use. Polyacrylic is a white thick compound that is used in making of acrylic fibers as well as absorbing agent. Polyethylene is a famous packing material for food materials and almost all industrial goods. No doubt, the basic unit of polyurethane is urethane. However, they are different in properties in terms of flexibility and rigidity. Moreover, as their use in medicines, polyurethane is less toxic as compared to pure urethane.
