What is the Difference between Explosive Oxidizing Flammable and Combustible
There are many types of chemical reactions both natural and artificial. Some are of high intensity and cause some blast. Different terms like explosion, oxidizing agent and flammable are used to describe various chemical reactions. They all are different from each other in terms of properties and chemistry. Let’s have a look on difference between them.
Explosive
It is special type of material, which contain a huge amount of potential energy in it and it can produce a high explosion when it get release suddenly due to some pressure, gas or temperature.
Oxidizing Agent
It is also known as oxidant or oxidizer. It is a substance, which removes electrons during redox chemical reaction from other reactant. It may be reduced by taking electrons back to it.
Flammable
A flammable material is one which can caught fire rapidly. It do not has any resistance from fire. Some of them are highly flammable and some low.
Combustible
These are the materials, which can burn themselves. They can produce heavy fumes and they are very high flammable. Gasoline, thinner and petrol are combustible materials.
Explosive vs Oxidizing vs Flammable vs Combustible
The difference between explosive and oxidizing agent is that, an explosive material is that type of material which can produce a huge explosion due to its internal potential energy. It may be burst due to some external pressure. While an oxidizing agent is a chemical agent, which can remove electrons from a reactant in Redox reaction. Difference between flammable and combustible is that, flammable materials are those which can caught fire and burn, while combustible materials are those materials which can burn themselves and cause huge flames. They are very much flammable and can harm more then normal flammable materials. Gasoline and thinner are examples of combustible materials.
