What is the Difference between Dna and Rna
Human body contains micro as well as macro molecules.DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) are the two macromolecules present in human body. Their main function is to store certain information about the living organisms. Moreover, both macromolecules are present in all the known living organisms. Here is a comprehensive difference between DNA and RNA.
DNA
DNA is a nucleic acid that contains all those information, which are required for the development and functioning of living organisms. The main function of these macromolecules is to store information for long period of time.DNA molecule carry information in form of genes which are responsible for the species of living organism. This nucleic acid has a double helix structure and its long polymers form a strand like structure. DNA has Hydrogen Bonding and is like a recipe which has information about construction of human body.
RNA
Ribonucleic acid (RNA) is one of those macromolecules, which are present in the human body. Long chain nucleotides gave rise to RNA. Each nucleotide consists of nucleo-base, a ribose sugar and phosphate group. Some RNA play role of a catalyst in biological reactions. It is a single strand molecule. It helps in the production of proteins. It has not only a C-OH bond (hydroxyl bond), but also copies information from DNA.
DNA vs RNA
The key difference between DNA and RNA is that DNA contains a double helix structure while RNA has single strand. Moreover, Deoxy-ribose sugar present in DNA is less reactive than ribose sugar present in RNA. Similarly, DNA is found in nucleus while RNA is found in nucleus and cytoplasm. Another difference between these macromolecules is that DNA has B shaped helix geometry while RNA has A shaped helix geometry. DNA is totally protected while RNA strands are continuously made, broken and reused nucleic acids. Furthermore, DNA can be damaged by exposure to ultra-violet rays while RNA is more resistant to Ultra-violet rays.
