What is the Difference between Analogue and Digital
Every day, we are concerned with different types of data or quantities. We differentiate them in different categories on the basis of their characteristics or according to our needs. A type of categorization for quantities is analogue or digital. Almost every quantity can be described as analog quantity or a digital one. Here is a brief description about what analogue and digital means.
Analogue
By definition analogue means anything which is continuous on any scale. Normally, we hear that world it is linked with the quantities which are continuous on time scale. It makes analog a mathematical term. Analogue means a quantity whose value or magnitude is known at any time or precisely at any fraction of time, just like when we play music or between any two intervals sound is audible at any time.
Digital
Digital means something which is represented in the form of digits. Quantities can be represented in digital form. Digital quantities do not occur in nature. Analog quantities are converted in to the digital form. Whenever scientists need to study analog quantities they face a lot of difficulties, but while working on a digital quantity they suppress unnecessary details of any continuous quantity or signal representing it with discrete numbers, which makes its analysis much simpler.
Analogue vs Digital
All quantities existing in nature are analog and we convert them into digital. Analogue form of quantities is understandable for us but we cannot understand the digital quantities. In mobile phone, receiver receives our voice which is analogue in nature than it converts it into digital form and transmits it on the receiver end. Then, it is received as a digital quantity but again converted into the analogue form because we can understand it. Analogue data is represented by continuous wave patterns and the digital data requires a discrete number for presentation.
