What is the Difference Between Similar But Different Things, Terms, and Objects

What is the Difference between Mixture Atom Molecule Element and Compound

In this world everything is made up of building blocks and has a basic unit. Human body is made of similar building blocks and the basic unit of this building is cell which makes tissues and muscles which join up to shape up a human body. Similarly, there are more than 109 elements in this world out of which 92 are naturally occurring while other are artificially made in laboratory. These are also made up of building blocks. Here we are going to discuss some terms which are thought to be same but are not same in reality. This explanation will help us to understand these regularly used terms in a better way and to explain them to others in a more logical way than before.

Atom

It is the basic building block of an element, molecule or a compound. It has a nucleus in center. Negatively charged electrons are moving in circles around it.

Molecule

Two atoms combine up together to make up a molecule. It is electrically neural. Atoms in a molecule are held together due to the presence of different types of bonds

Element

it is a pure chemical substance which has same type of atoms and has an atomic number through which it can be recognized easily

Compound

Elements combine together to form compounds. They can be separated by a simple chemical reaction and has a specific number of ratios of elements present in them

Mixture

A mixture is a combination two different substances and these two substances retain their individual identity in a mixture and this combination doesn’t involve any chemical reaction

Atom Vs Molecule Vs Element Vs Compound Vs Mixture

Atom is a basic building block while molecule is the combination of two atoms. Element is a pure substance which has atoms of same kind while a compound is a chemical combination of two elements. A mixture is also a combination of two substances but it doesn’t involve a chemical reaction.
