What is the Difference between Prediction, Fact, Law, Theory and Hypothesis
This is an age of invention and progress. Scientist are discovering new things and making new inventions by each passing second. These new inventions are the cause of the other inventions and the process goes on. It is estimated that around one hundred and twenty pages are being written of ne inventions by each passing minute. It is a great challenge to check the authenticity of this information and prove it valid and applicable information. This problem has been solved by the scientist by forming a process through which information is passed. Here are differences between these different steps.
Fact
Any information which has been experienced, seen or listened is known as fact. It is supposed to be true and its validity is checked later on.
Hypothesis
The validity of a fact is checked by making different assumptions and then these assumptions are tested. These assumptions are called hypothesis.
Theory
After the success of the experiment performed on hypothetical statement a fact becomes a theory and is further tested by the scientist.
Prediction
Few inferences are made by the scientist to test the validity of theory on similar phenomenon. These inferences are known as predictions.
Law
After the successful verification of a theory and performing different experiments it becomes a law. A law is universally applicable and tends to present the solution of the problem in every possible way.
Fact Vs Hypothesis Vs Theory Vs Prediction Vs Law
Fact is an information e about anything while hypothesis are the assumptions made to test its validity. After the validity of a fact is proved it becomes theory and few inferences are drawn from it which are called predictions. If this also proves to be true then it becomes a law which is universally applicable.
