What is the Difference between Dissolution Annulment Divorce Legal Separation
Marriage is the most important, memorable and beloved event of a person life. Sometimes, the relation between the married couple becomes disturbing due to any reason and they decide to separate from each other either permanently or for some times. Dissolution Annulment Divorce Legal Separation are the names of some solutions that allow the married couple to separate from each other legally, but with different conditions. Let’s see the difference between these unpleasant terms.
Dissolution
Dissolution of marriage or divorce are the two names of same thing. Both the words are used interchangeably. Anyway, divorce is nothing, but dissolution or ending of marriage relation between husband and wife according to orders of court. However, many things are considered at the time of this legal ending of marital union like custody and support of children, financial support of spouse, division of property and even debt etc.
Annulment
Annulment is also ending of marriage legally, but with the condition that both partners will believe that this marriage was never took place ever and will forget the time of their married life. The judge declares the marriage just invalid from the beginning. In this case, the judge tries to restore the rights and assets of each individual person just like they had before marriage. In case of having children, chances of claiming and getting annulment become very difficult for the married couple.
Divorce
Divorce is same as dissolution of marriage, as described under the heading of dissolution.
Legal Separation
Legal separation is very near to divorce, but legally discontinuing the marital matters for sometimes rather than ending the marital status forever. In fact, those persons try to get document of legal separation from judge who do not want to live together for unknown duration, but also not want to dissolve the marriage with a hope to live together again in future. In the case of legal separation, again judge decides the matters of financial support as well as custody of children, residential matters of both spouse and many more.
Dissolution vs Annulment vs Divorce vs Legal Separation
Dissolution and divorce are interchangeable words and have no any difference. The difference between divorce and annulment is that, divorce is the ending of marriage from the time of judge’s decision or the time of putting court case for having divorce. However, annulment is ending of marriage from the time of its beginning means the both members have legal documentation that their marriage was never took place. In this case, all the financial matters and rights of spouse persons get restored rather than division like in the case of divorce. On the other hand, legal separation is ending of marriage life temporarily without permanently dissolution of marriage. The matters of supporting spouse as well as children are same as in case of divorce.
