What is the Difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

The day our life style changed from simple to complex, we are suffering from more and more diseases that were not known to many of people like us in past. One of the most common diseases of today’s age is diabetes. It has many types but most commonly found are type-1 and type-2 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes

The type 1 diabetes was formerly known as juvenile onset diabetes. It occurs before 20 years of age. The reason of this disease is the malfunctioning of pancreas (the organ that secrets insulin). The insulin which pancreas makes during the biological process is attacked by the antibodies in our blood. This causes the decrease in necessary sugar level, hence such patients need to get the intake of insulin from external sources either by injection or through a pump. Type 1 diabetes patients are thin by their physic. The type one patients are not more than 10-15 percent in total diabetic patients.

Type 2 Diabetes

The type 2 diabetes was formerly known as adult onset diabetes. It occurs later than 35 years of age. The type 2 patients are normally heavy. The reason for type 2 diabetes is the “insulin resistance”. In this type, the insulin is not destroyed but it does not work well. The cure for it on initial stages is only by changing the life style and diet a bit. But at later stages, insulin intake is needed. Almost 85-90 percent of the diabetic patients are of type 2. It is inherited from generations to generations.

Type 1 vs Type 2 Diabetes

Type one patients does not make much of the part of total diabetic patients as compared to type 2 patients. The type 1 patients are of thin physic while type two patients are heavy built. Type 2 patients are prone to heart diseases which is dangerous. Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed before 20 years of age while type 2 attacks at the age of 35 or even more. Type 2 is dangerous than type one. The two types are medically different with different needs of medication and life style.
