What is the Difference between Psychologist and Psychiatrist
A person, who is suffering from any mental problem, tries to find a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Usually, people have lot of confusion about these persons and do not know well about difference between them. Moreover, they do not know that which person is suitable up to what extent of any mental disorder. To void this confusion, here is a brief description about differences between psychologists and psychiatrists.
Psychologist
A psychologist is such scientist, who can treat a patient having any mental problem by using some psychological tools, either verbally or in the form of some mental exercise. Actually, a psychologist has a master or doctorate degree in the field of psychology rather than a medical degree. The treatment method of a psychologist comprises of such practices, in which a mental patient is treated with psychoanalysis techniques or some verbally asking questions.
Psychiatrist
A psychiatrist is that person, who has a licensed medical degree along with specialization in the field of treating all types of mental diseases like Alzheimer’s, Schizophrenia or ADD. Being a professional doctor, a physiatrist can use not only the psychoanalysis techniques for treatment of patients, but also suggests medicines as well.
Psychologist vs Psychiatrist
The major difference between a psychologist and psychiatrist is the non-medical and medical degree holder respectively. Moreover, a psychiatrist has the authority of writing a medicine prescription in contrast to a psychologist, who cannot do this. Another key difference between these two persons is that, a psychologist is a scientist and can only treat with emotional as well as mindset problems of a person, by using psychoanalysis techniques and verbal words. On the other hand, a psychiatrist for being a physician can treat not only mental disorder problems, but the mental diseases as well. For the sake of this purpose, a psychiatrist can use both psychoanalysis techniques and medicines for treatment of a mental patient.
