What is the Difference between HDMI, DVI and VGA

Choice of connectors is a big problem these days. In the past devices were simpler and a simple connectors were enough. However, with the advancement of technology new devices come on the scene and that make choice of connector a bit complicated.  Hdmi, Dvi and Vga are few types of connectors, here we are discussing the difference between them.

HDMI

HDMI is stands for High definition multimedia interface, which is used for transmission of digital data. It is used with DVD players, Camcorders, Computers and gaming consoles. It is a single cable which supports any uncompressed TV or PC video format, which might include standard, enhances or high definition video. The quality of video is really better when HDMI connector is used.

DVI

Digital Visual Interface or DVI is a video interface, which transmit video signals between a source device and a display device. This cable is widely used with computers, mainly desktops, while in laptops DVI is rarely used. It is partially compatible with the HDMI standard in digital mode and VGA in analog mode. However, it is still used in some television sets, while most of them are using HDMI now.

VGA

Video Graphics Array or VGA is a connector, which has 15 pins arranged in three rows. It is usually used in computer monitors and video cards, you can also find it in some TV sets. Mini VGA port is used in small devices. VGA transmits analog video signals.

HDMI vs DVI vs VGA

All three are different types of connectors, which support different forms of data. Hdmi is the standard cable, which supports almost every kind of data. As compared to Dvi and Vga connectors Hdmi connectors are easy to use. Dvi supports analog and digital data but it does not support HDCP encryption by default.
