Vegetables are most important and necessary part of our daily diet. There are many types of vegetables; some are root-based, some are stem based and some are leaf-based. No doubt, every vegetable is enriched with nutrition and fulfill the needs of our body in terms of vitamins, carbohydrates, protein, fiber and minerals. However, here our concern is with root vegetables. Parsnip, Swede, Beet, Radish, Turnip and Rutabaga are the names of some famous root vegetables and here is the difference between them.
Parsnip
Parsnip looks like carrots in shape, but are different in color, taste and nutrition. These root vegetables are pale in color, having sweet taste and enriched with dietary fiber. We can eat them in raw form as well in cooked form by boiling and roasting. These are also called winter vegetables.
Swede
Sewed is a root vegetable that is a big source of vitamin C. it is also known as Rutabaga or Swedish turnip. Its root is used in various types of dishes and leaves are used as a separate leaf vegetable. These are widely used as non-food items as well like in Halloween.
Beet
Beet is a root as well as leaf vegetable at a time depends upon its variety. Spinach beet is used as leaf vegetable and sugar beet is used as root vegetable. It is a big alternate of sugarcane for extracting sugar and is enriched with carbohydrates, sugar and dietary fiber.
Radish
Radish is another root vegetable, which is used in different forms all over the world. Different verities in size and color are available.
Turnip
This root vegetable usually grows in temperate climates. Usually, small verities are grown for human use and larger verities are grown for livestock.
Rutabaga
As mentioned earlier, swede, a root vegetable, is also known as Rutabaga.
