What is the Difference between Tone and Mood
There is a common question, why some not-so-good literature gets the highest ranking while others don’t? The success to a literature lies in the tone the author adopts that makes the mood of the reader. Creating an environment for the reader is the most difficult task for the writer. If the theme of the book is good but the overall impact of the book doesn’t go well, it means the book is not a good book. Anyway, let’s see the difference between the two.
Tone
Tone is the environment, the atmosphere, the feelings that the writer creates to catch the attention of his readers. The writer may use negative, positive or any other kind of expressions to create strong environment for the reader. It’s actually the attitude of the writer towards his idea. So the accurate the tone is, the better the grip of the writer on the reader’s mind is.
Mood
Mood is what the reader perceives, after he starts reading the book. The emotions and expressions of reader, after he reads the book is called mood. Readers develop the sense of seeing the incidents written in the book, fake or true, so this seeing needs the mood of the reader.
Tone vs Mood
The first difference is the associated person. The writer is the one responsible for writing in an impressive tone, while reader is the one who is responsible for converting the tone of the writer in his mood. Writer’s writing depends on the selection of his words to create the atmosphere for the reader, while reader can simply reject the writer’s idea. The tone is the effort of the writer to make a scene look real by putting the powerful emotions and expressions, while mood is the effort of the reader to develop the sense of reading between the lines and getting those emotions.
