What is the Difference between Sponsorship Studentship Scholarship Fellowship

There are different types of academic terms, which are used frequently in our society. These terms have their on perspectives. Scholarship, fellowship, studentship and sponsorship are the academic terms that we hear in routine life, but they all are different from each other in their various ways. Let’s have a look on difference between them.

Studentship

There are two types of studentship. In America studentship is similar to a scholarship, but there is an extra condition. It involves a research work on summer project. It is paid tax-free. In United Kingdom, the studentship is also equal to PhD scholarship.

Scholarship

It is an award of some financial aid for a student to get further education. It is awarded on different criteria which generally show the purposes and values of donor. It may be a merit based, need base or student-specific.

Fellowship

A period of medical training in United States and Canada, which physicians complete after his or her residency, is called a fellowship. The physician is known as fellow during the fellowship.

Sponsorship

It is defined as a support an event, person or an organization through products, financially or services. It may be an individual or group sponsor.

Sponsorship vs Studentship vs Scholarship vs Fellowship

The difference between studentship and scholarship is that, studentship is a term used in USA and UK, which is also similar to scholarship but it has an extra condition in which a summer project is complete by research on it. While, scholarship is a award in the form of financial aid for a student to continue his further studies. The difference between fellowship and sponsorship is, fellowship is a period of medical training complete by a physician after his/her residency. While, sponsorship is a kind of sponsor or support to a person in the form of services or financially.
