What is the Difference between Designer, Drafter and Architect
In modern days, construction of a building is not a simple task like older age. Today, a lot of scientific techniques and mathematical calculations are involved in construction process of any building. This is the reason that has made the buildings more comfortable and luxurious than older age. Designer, Drafter and Architect are the persons that apply these scientific techniques and mathematical calculations in construction process, but in different ways and respective limits. Let’s see the boundaries of these persons in construction of any building.
Designer
A designer is the person who makes the design of a project by determining its structural properties. A designer is a very general term and today, designer is need of every field i.e. from fashion industry to engineering projects. Designer is a versatile name that fits in many jobs like graphic designer, furniture designer, web designer, interior designer and many more.
Drafter
A drafter is the person that makes engineering drawings and prepares technical plans either for construction of a building or manufacturing a machine part. The need of a drafter is not limited to only civil engineering, but it is the person that is the requirement of many other field as well like electrical, mechanical, electronics, aeronautical engineering. Today, many mathematical software and computer programs like CADD are used for making the work of a drafter easier, perfect and efficient.
Architect
An architect is the person that is purely involved in construction of a building and responsible for precise designing, planning and over sighting. He is the person that gets professional education, practical training and license to practice its skill, because he is responsible for public safety issues involved in construction of a building.
Designer vs Drafter vs Architect
The first difference between Designer, Drafter and Architect is that, designer is a broader term that is related to a long list of fields including fashion and engineering. However, drafter is the person that gets involved in many fields but all related to engineering disciplines. On the other hand, architect is the person that is normally used for the person involved in construction projects of buildings. The second major difference is that, the level of responsibility for public safety issues goes higher with this order Designer, Drafter and Architect. Moreover, a person becomes designer after getting some short courses, while to become a drafter normally diplomas are sufficient. However, to become a n architect, higher level education with degree certificate is necessary.
