Our body always needs balanced and regular takeup of food. Malnutrition is the lack of nutrients in the human body due to unavailability of food at regular intervals or due to an unbalanced diet. Kwashiorkor and Marasmus are the two different conditions of malnutrition. Many people cannot differentiate these two different conditions of malnutrition. Kwashiorkor Malnutrition
Kwashiorkor is the condition of malnutrition, which occurs due to lack of protein in the routine diet. The reasons behind developing such condition are limited food supply, famine and low literacy rate. Kwashiorkor Malnutrition is common in poor countries, where people always face lack of food and have no education facilities. Natural disasters and war conditions are also significant reasons behind development of Kwashiorkor Malnutrition in the people of any country. Diarrhea, change in skin and hair color, reduction in muscle mass from various organs of body, dryness of skin and low growth are the symptoms of Kwashiorkor Malnutrition. The regular and more intake of protein as well as other nutrients can control the disease, but if treated at an early stage.
Marasmus Malnutrition
Marasmus is the extreme or severe condition of malnutrition which a person's face due to lack of almost all nutrients in its daily diet. In simple words, Marasmus Malnutrition occurs due to lack of energy in the human body. The causes behind Marasmus Malnutrition are almost same as of Kwashiorkor Malnutrition like unavailability of balanced and regular diet due to poorness, natural disasters or national issues. Regular and balanced diet in more quantity could save the patient, if treated at an early stage.
Kwashiorkor VS Marasmus Malnutrition
The key difference between Kwashiorkor and Marasmus Malnutrition is that, Marasmus can appear in babies before six months instead of Kwashiorkor which usually not appear in breastfed babies. Similarly, the person suffering from Marasmus look thin and very much weak with dryness of hairs and wrinkles on skin. However, in case of Kwashiork Malnutrition, the affected person gives the bloated look with discoloration of skin and hair. In short, Marasmus Malnutrition is more dangerous than Kwashiorkor Malnutrition.
