What is the Difference between Hypopnea Insomnia Narcolepsy and Sleep Apnea
Sleep is very important for a healthy mind and body. For a normal and healthy living, six to eight hours sleep is necessary. Some people suffer from sleeping disorders, like Insomnia, Narcolepsy and sleep Apnea. Some people suffer from excessive sleep disorders, while others have sleeping disturbances. Here we are mentioning difference between these terms.
Hypopnea
Shallow breathing or low respiratory rate is the characteristics of hypopnea. It can occur during sleep or when patient is awake. Patient sleeps but it’s not normal and he feels restless or tired after waking up. Disruption in breathing leads to low oxygen level in blood, which disturbs sleep.
Insomnia
Insomnia is also related with sleeping difficulties. In this disorder, patient either feels difficulty sleeping or he feels problems in staying asleep. Insomnia is considered as sign of many other sleeping and psychiatric disorders.
Narcolepsy
A chronic sleep disorder is called as Narcolepsy. In this condition, patient feels excessive sleepiness and sleep attacks during working hours or other inappropriate times. Patient adapt daytime sleep pattern, and cannot sleep during night.
Sleep Apnea
When a person feels abnormal pauses in breathing during sleep, this condition is called as Sleep Apnea. Pause in breathing is called as apnea, and it can be as short as few second and as long as few minutes.
Hypopnea vs Insomnia vs Narcolepsy vs Sleep Apnea
Shallow breathing is the characteristic of Hypopnea, which can occur during sleep as well. Sleep Apnea is also a sleeping disorder, associated with breathing, but in this case patient breaths with pauses. Insomnia and Narcolepsy are also sleeping disorders, but insomnia is associated with sleeping difficulties and in Narcolepsy patient feels excessive sleep. During all other disorders patient does not feel sleepy during the day but in Narcolepsy sleeping pattern changes and patient sleeps during the day.
