What is the Difference between Flakes, Lice Eggs, Nits, Dandruff and Dry Scalp
Our scalp consists of many layers with innermost layer, a ground for growth of cells and uppermost layer, the protective skin that consists of dead cells. Flakes, Lice Eggs, Nits, Dandruff and Dry Scalp are the names of some common scalp problems that we face, bear and even treat in our routine life. In fact, all these things have different causes, symptoms and even treatment, but most of people consider all of them only dandruff. It is not and to clear the confusion, just takes a look on the following differences between these terminologies.
Flakes
This is the most confusing thing that we often relate with dandruff. In fact, not all the flakes are considered as dandruff. Usually, dead cells fall off from our head in the form of tiny white flakes and if these very small flakes are not in regular, these are just flakes and no need to worry.
Lice Eggs
Lice Eggs that are also known as nits are little yellowish dot like bodies, that we often see on our scalp. These are the result of matching male and female lice and it is hard to see and even remove them only by brushing. After hatching within 2 weeks, it becomes easy to locate lice eggs and remove them by scrubbing the hairs with oil.
Nits
There is no difference between Lice Eggs and Nits. These are the two words of same thing.
Dandruff
Dandruff is the most common scalp problem that is nothing, but small yellowish white flakes. Usually dermatitis and frequent exposure in cold and hot weather are the causes behind dandruff. It is a type of skin inflammation in which dead skin cells appears in the form of flakes. Medicated shampoos could be a healthy treatment.
Dry Scalp
Dry scalp is the extreme stage of dandruff in which after frequent removal of dead skin cells, skin dryness appears upon the scalp in the form of patches. Dehydration is another major cause of dry scalp and itchiness as well as burning areas on scalp after scarcthing are the common symptoms of this problem.
Flakes vs Lice Eggs vs Nits vs Dandruff vs Dry Scalp
There is just thread line difference between flakes and dandruff. Both are appearance of dead skin cells upon scalp and shredding of these dead skin cells in the form of tiny white particles. However, ordinary flakes do not occur frequently and consistently just like dandruff. Similarly, in dry scalp is the more severe form of dandruff in which after continuous removal of dead skin cells, itchiness and dryness of scalp in some areas start to occur. On the other hand, both nits and lice eggs are the synonyms and these result from meeting of male and female lice, usually found near the roots of hairs.
