What is the Difference between Chesty Cough, Dry Cough and Wet Cough

Cough is a common disease in our society.  It is a viral disease which can be transfer from one infected person to other. It is a release of air from lungs. It can be heard easily. It is protective for respiratory system because it clears the system from irritants and secretions. When the muscle involved in breathing pressed against the lungs, the glottis open and produces an explosive flow of air.

Chesty Cough

It is a type of cough. In chesty cough mucus or phlegm is present in the chest. The main symptom of chesty cough is the presence of phlegm or mucus. In chesty cough, coughing is beneficial for patient so the phlegm is moved from chest. It is also divided into two types, productive and non-productive.

Dry Cough

It is another type of cough. In dry cough there is no phlegm or mucus in the chest. Coughing has no benefit in dry cough because there is no need to move phlegm.

Wet Cough

It is a sub-division of chesty cough. It is also called productive cough. In wet cough a person can feel the presence of phlegm in his chest because he would have coughing due to phlegm.

Chesty Cough vs Dry Cough vs Wet Cough

The difference between chesty cough and dry cough is, presence of mucus or phlegm in chest is the main symptom of chesty cough. A patient with chesty cough has phlegm in chest and it is moved by coughing. It is further divided into productive and non-productive cough. While in dry cough there is no phlegm present in chest and coughing has no benefit. Wet cough is a type of chesty cough. In wet cough a person has coughing due to the presence of phlegm in chest and is coughed off from chest. There is different diagnosis and medicines for chesty and dry cough.
