What is the Difference between Bohemians Pikeys Hippies Gypsies and Travellers
Human race is present on this face of earth in very large number. Different people belong to different cultures. If we talk about cultures, bohemians, pikeys, hippies and gypsies are some common names. All these are different from each other and people belonging to them have some specific characteristics. Here we are discussing some major differences between them.
Bohemians
Bohemian is the person, who lives in Kingdom of Bohemia. Bohemia is now called as Czech Republic. This term is also referred to an unconventional person, particularly that person who is involved in any branch of arts.
Pikeys
Pikey is not a term, rather it is a slang word, which is used in United Kingdom and United States. This is used for those people who belong to low social class. This term is also used in other countries, but meaning changes with culture.
Hippies
Hippie is originally a subculture, which started from a youth movement in United States. This culture spread all over the world in mid 1960s. Early members of this movement adopted countercultural values, later other members created their own communities. Use of drugs like cannabis and magic mushrooms is also associated with this culture.
Gypsies
The term Gypsy is used in many different meanings all over the world. Commonly Romani people, which are present throughout the Europe, are referred as Gypsies. Gypsy is basically referred to as a lifestyle; it is not referred to any ethnic group.
Travellers
This term is usually used for Irish people. They are nomadic people of Irish origin. They are present in Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom and United states. Travellers have different culture and traditions and even a separate language.
Bohemians vs Pikeys vs Hippies vs Gypsies vs Travellers
All these terms are used for unconventional people, but all of them are different from each other. Bohemians are used for the residents of Bohemian, which is now called as Czech Republic. Pikeys are referred to the low social class of people, which live in UK and US. Hippy is a sub culture, which originated from a youth movement. They have created their own communities and marked with the use of drugs. Gypsy is the term used for nomadic people. It is a lifestyle instead of an ethnic group. Travellers are also nomadic people, but they have different culture, tradition and language.
