What is the Difference between Proficiency, Efficiency and Effectiveness
In management, doing work in assigned time and in well manner is highly appreciated. However, for measuring the person’s ability to do any task in right combination of time and achievement of end goal, three basic terms proficiency, efficiency and effectiveness are used. For any common person, who does not know the exact meaning of management terms in well manner, it is very difficult to understand the difference between Proficiency, Efficiency and Effectiveness. Proficiency
Proficiency is the ability of person to do any job in highly skillful manner by means of consistent hard work in the right direction. Moreover, a person is only called proficient, when the obtained results can fulfill the established standards.
Efficiency
Efficiency is the ratio of output to input and it is measurement of that extent of skill in which an assigned work is done. Efficiency is a quantitative concept. It is related to time extent, in which a right job is done. Efficiency is not aimed to achievement of end goal.
Effectiveness
Effectiveness is the measurement of capability in which a work is done just for achievement of end goal. Effectiveness does not depend upon time and concerned with long term strategies to gain.
Proficiency vs Efficiency vs Effectiveness
Proficiency is the right work done that not only fulfills the established standards, but also a result of steady performance. Efficiency is a quantitative term in contrast to effectiveness that is purely non-quantitative term. Moreover, efficiency is doing right job in right time without considering consequences in contrast to effectiveness that has mainly concern with end goal.
