What is the Difference between Gift Kickback Reward Bribe and Grease Payment
Give and take is an important part of a human society. We see different kinds of money exchanges all around us, some of them are positive like gift and reward, while others are crime like Bribe and grease payments. It is very important to understand them, as they all are different from each other. Here, we are trying to define each one of them, in a more clear way.
Gift
Gift is to present someone, money or something, without expecting anything in return. It is the expression of love and fine feeling for an individual. Gift is something which makes the recipient happy or reduces his grief.
Kickback
Kickback is a gift in negative terms. These payments are offered against some services, which are not really legal. Kickbacks are associated with white collar crimes and are very common in politics and other public sectors.
Reward
Reward is money or something, given to an individual as an incentive. When a worker works exceptionally well, company owner or his boss reward him with a better position or money.
Bribe
When a person offers money or any other valuable thing to an individual, in order to change his behavior, it is called as bribe. It is often used to get an illegal favor. Bribe is very common in sports as after receiving bribe athletes do not perform at their best.
Grease payment
When bribe is presented to a low level government official or worker to change his decision about a transaction or business decision, it is called as grease payment. This term is more commonly used in those countries, where corruption is not an unusual thing.
Gift vs Kickback vs Reward vs Bribe vs Grease Payment
Gift is the expression of love and fine feeling for a person and it is presented without any expectation. On the other hand, kickback is that money, which is presented to a worker to get an illegal favor. Reward is an incentive for a worker, given to him for his great efforts. Bribe is money offered to a person in order to alter his original performance or change his right decision. Grease payment is a form of bribe, but the money offered is less in amount and it is offered to a low level worker.
