What is the Difference between Yellow Jackets Bumblebees Hornets Bees and Wasps

There are different types of insects in this world. Some of them are very beautiful like butterflies. Some are very dangerous while some have benefits for humans like bee that produces honey, which is very healthy thing for humans. Let’s have a look on difference between common insects like bee, yellow jacket, bumblebee, hornet and wasps.

Bee

Bees are the flying insect. It is from a super family apoidea. They are well known insects for pollination and producing honey and honey wax. They found in the entire world except Antarctica. There are 20,000 known species from seven families of bees.

Yellow Jacket

It is a common name of wasps that found in North America. They are from genera vespula. They are mostly black and yellow in color; some are black and white also. They are predators of pest insects.  They also have sting.

Wasps

Any member of aculeate family is known as wasp. They are neither bees nor aunts. They are specially used in agriculture to prey the pest insects, which harm the crops. There are over 10,000 species of wasps.

Bumble Bee

A bumble bee is a member of the bee genus bombus. There are up to 250 species of bumble bee are in different countries like Australia, new Zealand etc.  They are common social insects. There are very soft hairs on their entire body called pile.

Hornet

They are from genus vespa. They are different from all the vespian due to their large size body and width of vertex. They sting to prey or protect the nest.

The difference between bee and bumble bee is that, bee is found all over the world and is most common insect, easily recognizable. While bumble bee is seems like bee but they have pile on their entire body, and they also find in some specific areas. Difference between hornet and wasp is, wasp are used to prey pest insects which harm the crops, while hornet are very large in their size and also have a large width of vertex, which differ them from wasps and yellow jackets.
