What is the Difference between Bullock, Buffalo, Heifer, Cow and Ox
Animals are of various types and uses. Some are used for work, while we get milk and meat from some other animals. There are also some kinds of animals which prey each other. Ox, bullock, buffalo, cow and heifer are common domestic animals used for different purposes. Let’s have a look on the difference between them.
Ox
It is a male animal from the cattle family. It belongs to genus Bos. It is used by farmers. It is trained for many kind of work. Some of them are not trained. It is also used to get meat.
Bullock
In Australia and many other specific countries, an ox is also called bullock. They are the same beast but in a different culture.
Heifer
It is a young female animal, which has any calf of its own, and it is under three years of age is known as heifer. If a young female has only one calf, it will called first-calf heifer.
Cow
A cow is an adult female. It has one or two calves depending upon the region. It is one of the most common mammals on the earth. It is domesticated to get milk and meat.
Buffalo
Buffalo is a large wild or domestic cloven-hooved animal. It is the closest relative of the domestic bovine. It is domesticated for dairy and meat purposes.
Bullock vs Buffalo vs Heifer vs Cow vs Ox
The difference between ox and bullock is that, ox is a male from the cattle family and it is trained for work usually. It is also used to get meat. While, bullock is also an ox. In Australia and some other countries, ox is called bullock. It is the same beast. Difference between cow and heifer is that, cow is an adult female from the cattle family. It has had at least one calf. While heifer is a young female, only has one calf less than three years of age. Buffalo is a large wild or domestic animal, used to get milk and meat.
