What is the Difference between Atomic Mass, Weight, Number and Radius
The scientists have gone very far ahead in the study of objects. They have made artificial elements and have made the study of the elements very easy by allocating them, atomic masses and atomic number. We can recognize each and every element by its own atomic number. Here we are going to discuss that what we meant by these chemical terms which we came across daily. We are going to study some differences which are present between the terms. These are all related to atoms but all are different.
Atomic Mass
Atomic mass is the total number of protons, electrons and neutrons present in a single atom of an element when it is not in motion. Old periodic table was based on atomic masses.
Atomic Weight
Atomic weight is the weight of an atom related to the atomic weight of an atom of Carbon whose weight is taken as twelve. It is a physical quantity.
Atomic Radius
Atomic radius of an element is the size of an atom from the nucleus of an atom to the clouds of electrons which are surrounding the atom.
Atomic Number
Atomic number of an element is the total number of protons which are present in the nucleus of an atom. The new periodic table is formed on the basis of atomic number of these elements.
Atomic Mass Vs Atomic Weight Vs Atomic Radius Vs Atomic Number
Atomic mass is the total number of protons, electrons and neutrons present in an atom while total number of protons in an atom of an element is referred as its atomic number. The atomic radius is the distance from nucleus to electron cloud while atomic weight is the weight of an atom relate to the carbon atom whose weight is taken as twelve.
