What is the Difference between Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Some human diseases have common symptoms and many people think that they are the same. Same is true for Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Both diseases have common symptoms like joint pain, swelling and stiffness but yet they both are different from each other. Here, we are mentioning few differences between the two.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is also called as degenerative arthritis. In this disease, joints of patient face mechanical abnormalities. A number of factors can cause this disease, which includes hereditary characters, metabolic problems and developmental impairments. All these factors initiate the degradation process of joint, which leads to the loss of cartilage. Bone surface exposes to the damage and degradation of joint starts. The symptoms of the disease include, joint pain, tenderness, stiffness and locking of joint.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic joint disorder. It is an auto immune disorder, in which body attacks at the joints and destroys the joints. The symptoms of the disease are stiffness in joints and joint pain, Patient feels more stiffness in joint after rest, such as early in the morning and stiffness last long. Usually, finger and wrist joint are affected with this disease.
Osteoarthritis vs Rheumatoid Arthritis
Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis are two diseases, which are associated with joints. However, they are different from each other. In Osteoarthritis joints like hips and keens get affected, which bear lot of weight, while in Rheumatoid arthritis joint like finger and wrist get affected. In osteoarthritis stiffness is usually very brief, but in rheumatoid arthritis it lasts longer. Osteoarthritis is more common in old age, while rheumatoid arthritis hits in middle age and even children can get affected. Osteoarthritis is associated with joint related issues only while rheumatoid arthritis also causes fever and fatigue. Interestingly, both types of arthritis are more common in women than in men.
