What is the Difference between Principle and Principal
Both “principle” and “principal” are widely using words in our daily life. As, there is a very little difference in spellings and also there is no difference between sound of these words. So, people often get confused about the proper use of these words according to situation. It does not mean that nobody know the meanings of these two different words. Actually, most of the people mix up the meanings of these two words and place a wrong word in the sentence. To avoid this confusion, here is the exact definition as well as proper difference between “principle” and “principal”.
Principle
If we talk about the word Principle as a part of speech, it is used as noun. As a definition principle means a fundamental assumption, a rule of law or a moral rule. In simple words we can call it the way of doing something. Words like axiom, percept and moral can be used as synonyms of principle.
Principal
Principal is used as adjective but sometimes we can use it as nous also. It can be defined as primary thing or main thing in a group. We can also call it as most important thing in a group of few things. Words like chief, primer and leading can be used as synonyms of principal.
Principle vs Principal
Both words sound similar but their meanings are entirely different. We can differentiate the both words in following terms. Principal is referred to the most important person, while principle is the fundamental law or concept. Principle is always used as noun where as principal can be used as nouns and adjective. Sometimes, principal is used to refer to amount of money as well. Although principal can also be used in plural form but usually principle is used in plural form.
