What is the Difference between Ram and Rom
Can you imagine a computer without memory? Obviously, it is not possible. A computer not only uses memory for starting up its operating system, but also for storing data on permanent basis. You can say that there are two types of memories, which a computer uses for its proper running. These two types of memories are called as RAM and ROM. Here is a brief discussion about the individual purpose of these memories.
RAM
RAM or “Random Access Memory” is the name of that memory, which is present in a computer in the form of microchips. Ram is the source, which stores all the application programs of operating system and helps the computer to run that operating system. Moreover, Ram holds the data of all running soft wares. As, Ram is a volatile memory, so whenever you shutdown a computer, all the data regarding running programs become vanished.
ROM
ROM or “Read Only Memory” is the name of such memory, which is also a necessary part of computer hardware and stores that instructional data, which is required for starting up of computer. The specialty of such type of memory is that it can store the data on permanent basis, which could not be vanished in case of shutdown of computer.
RAM vs ROM
The first difference between RAM and ROM is their duration of storing data. RAM can store data on temporary basis in contrast to Rom, which can store data on permanent basis. Furthermore, in case of shutdown of computer, the storing data of Ram is vanished, which is not happened in case of ROM, where data is not vanished after shutdown of computer. You can read and write the data, which you want to store in RAM. On the other hand, you can just read the data, stored in ROM. For retaining data in RAM, you must need electricity, which is not necessary in case of ROM.
