What is the Difference between Sleeting, Flurrying, Snowing and Hailing
In warm countries, people can only imagine the joy of snow falling. No doubt, there are such cold countries as well in the globe, where people have no choice but to bear the snow falling during the whole year or most part of the year. However, people living in these cold countries have certainly less complaints than people living in warm countries. There are various types of falling. Sleeting, Flurrying, Snowing and Hailing are some common types of snow falling. Here is the difference between Sleeting, Flurrying, Snowing and Hailing.
Sleeting
Sleeting is the form of snow falling that consists of both rain and snow balls. Sleeting could be in precipitation but in the form of frozen and transparent rain drops. His happens normally when temperature comes closer to freezing point.
Flurrying
Flurrying is the short occurrence of light snow. In case of flurrying, we see very little or even no snow accumulation on the earth surface. You can say that this is precipitation but in the form of ice like crystals.
Snowing
Snowing or simply snow storm is the falling of snow in the form of translucent or even white crystals of ice. You can say that snowing is the frozen precipitation that appears in the form of white and soft flakes of ice. It is formed by directly freezing of vapors of water in the air.
Hailing
Hailing is the most severe condition of snow falling. In fact, this is the precipitation that appears in the form of irregular pieces of ice that ranges in size from 5 to 200 mm. it is made up by ice pallets and rime.
Sleeting vs Flurrying vs Snowing vs Hailing
Sleeting is only condition of snow fall in which rain is also included with falling of snow. Sometimes, sleeting appears in the form of frozen rain drops. Flurrying is no doubt, a type of snow fall but it is lightest or shortest form of snow fall as the duration of snow fall in this case is just ignorable. Snowing is a wider term that covers all form of snow fall in broader sense. However, normally we call snowing to that precipitation that results in the form of soft white crystals. Hailing is a type of snow fall but in snow storm condition that is clearly distinguished with ice flakes sizes that have minimum diameter 5mm and found in irregular shape as well.
