What is the Difference between Groundnuts Almonds Cashews Peanuts and Tree Nuts
Nuts are a great source of energy, not only for human but for animals and birds also. A great verity of nuts is present all around us, which are used in raw form and in making many food dishes. These tree nuts include Ground nuts, almonds and cashew nuts. Peanuts are legumes but they are also considered as nuts. Here, we are mentioning difference between these different nuts.
Groundnuts
Groundnut is a legume or a member of bean family. It was first cultivated in Peru. It is herbaceous plant and grows only 30 to 50 cm. Groundnut are used in different forms, their oil is used in food dishes.
Almonds
Almond is not a true nut, rather in scientific terms it is a drupe. Hard shell is removed to get the real nut, which is usually brown in color. Almonds are also used in many food dishes. In some cultures they are used to sharpen the memory. Almond tree is a small deciduous tree, which grows as high as 10 meters.
Cashews
Cashew nut belongs to the family Anacardiaceae. The name derives from its Portuguese name, Caju. This nut is native to Northern South America, but now it grows is tropical climates also. Small tree of cashews is evergreen and grows 12 meters in height. The fruit is pear shaped, which has strong sweet smell and taste. It is used in making drinks and food items.
Peanuts
Peanut is the other name of ground nut. They are two names of the same legume.
Tree nuts
Tree nut is an umbrella term, which is used for ground nuts, almonds and cashews collectively. Tree nuts are important source of oils and other nutrients.

They are basically legume and raped in soft shell, which is easily breakable with hands. Cashew belongs to mango family, and it looks like pear. Their shell is also breakable with human hands. Almonds have strong shell, which is unbreakable with hands.
